Terms of Service

Kaizen DSP · Terrace, British Columbia, Canada · Last updated: March 2026

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using any Kaizen DSP software (including Choroboros and any future products), or by using our websites, signup forms, or support channels, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use our software or services.

2. Scope

These terms apply to Kaizen DSP as a company and to all current and future Kaizen DSP products, websites, and services (including the Choroboros plugin, the .kzn preset ecosystem, and any successor or additional plugins). References to “the software” or “the product” include any Kaizen DSP software you use under these terms.

3. License grant

For paid commercial products, Kaizen DSP grants you a perpetual, single-user, non-transferable license to use the software in accordance with the license key and documentation provided. The license is tied to you as the purchaser; you may not reassign, resell, or sublicense it without our written consent. You may install the software on machines you use for your own work.

Formats and copy protection. VST3 and AU builds do not require iLok, a dongle, or online activation. The AAX format (Pro Tools) uses mandatory PACE/iLok wrapping as required by Avid; use of the AAX build is subject to Avid and PACE terms in addition to these terms. If you use Pro Tools, ensure you are aware of iLok requirements before purchasing.

Beta software (e.g. Choroboros during its public beta period) is offered under separate terms — typically free, open source (e.g. GPLv3) or as stated on the beta download page — and does not constitute a commercial license until you purchase a commercial license after the beta ends.

4. Payment and Paddle

Purchases of Kaizen DSP commercial products are processed by Paddle as the Merchant of Record (MoR). Paddle handles payment processing, VAT/GST, and receipts. Your payment data is processed by Paddle in accordance with their privacy policy and terms; Kaizen DSP does not store or process your card or payment details. After a successful purchase, Paddle notifies Kaizen DSP so we can deliver your license key and product access.

Refund decisions made by Paddle in their capacity as Merchant of Record (e.g. chargebacks or Paddle-initiated refunds) are outside Kaizen DSP's direct control. Our stated refund policy below is the baseline we apply when we are able to process or influence a refund request.

5. Refund policy

Kaizen DSP's policy: no refunds after download except in the following cases:

  • Duplicate charge: You were charged more than once for the same product. We will refund the duplicate(s) once verified.
  • Verified defective product: The software does not function as documented and our support cannot resolve the issue (e.g. persistent crash, failure to authorize on supported systems). We may require logs or steps to reproduce before approving a refund.

Refunds are not offered for change of mind, compatibility with unsupported systems, or after you have downloaded and used the product for an extended period. If you are unsure about compatibility, contact us before purchasing. This policy is compatible with Paddle's MoR handling; Paddle may separately issue refunds under their own policies.

6. Beta software

Beta releases (including Choroboros during its public beta) are provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that beta software will be error-free, that it will become a commercial product, or that you will have any particular upgrade path.

Perpetual access to beta copies. Anyone who obtained a beta download before the beta end date (e.g. May 1, 2026 for Choroboros, or as stated on the beta page) may keep and use that copy indefinitely. Commercial launch does not revoke or limit that access; we do not require you to purchase a commercial license to continue using a beta build you already have.

We do not guarantee ongoing support or updates for beta builds. Participation in the beta is at your own risk.

7. .kzn signing service

Commercial Kaizen DSP plugins may allow you to export presets in the signed .kzn format. Doing so sends a signing request (including your license token and preset data) to a Kaizen DSP–hosted service. The service returns a cryptographic signature and may associate a creator identifier with your account for attribution in the file. By using the signing service, you agree that we may process the data necessary to sign the file and to maintain creator attribution as described in our Privacy Policy. You must not use the signing service to create presets that infringe others' rights or that contain malicious or illegal content.

Permanence of signatures. Once a file is signed by the service while you hold a valid license, the signature is permanent. If your license is later revoked or lapses, already-signed .kzn files remain valid and loadable; we do not invalidate existing signatures.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kaizen DSP and its owner(s) are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business opportunity, arising from your use of our software or services. Our total liability for any claim related to a paid product is limited to the amount you paid for that product in the twelve months before the claim.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of our software or services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. For material changes affecting paid licenses, we will use reasonable means to notify you (e.g. email or in-product notice).
